VI. I interviewed two individuals to see what their response would be to my (our) plan. Their responses are as follows.
2/19/11 The first person I interviewed was my mom. She said that she doesn't understand why the drinking age is at 21 when almost all other countries are 18. She said she doesn't get how it helps with drunk driving because tons of people still get into drunk driving accidents all the time, even people who legally aren't allowed to drink. Finally, she said we should lower the age to 18 and just raise requirements on educating people of all ages about alcohol.
2/21/11 The other person I interviewed was my grandpa, who served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He said that the drinking age should also be 18 years old, not 21. He was allowed to drink alcohol when he was fighting for the country, because the age hadn't been raised yet. He said it's stupid that at 18 years old some one could potentially be drafted and are considered adults, yet they can't consume alcohol. He finally said that he thinks the government would earn more money from the few extra years of drinkers, but he thinks traffic fatalities from drunk driving will increase.
VII. My (our) answer, based on our research, to their objections and concerns are
With the drinking age lowered to 18, schools would be required to edducate students about drunk driving and safe consumption of alcohol, this would help to lower the amount of fatalities due to drunk driving and alcohol poisoning. Also, from the 3 extra years of alcohol purchasing, the government would definately make more money from the taxes on alcohol because so many more people would legally be allowed to buy it.
